No war seems to affect Asian territories, but Beijing mobilized its cyber troops and launched a digital attack.<br /><br />On June 17 2006, a press release denouncing a big bribery scandal was sent out by Taiwan’s Defence Ministry Network. The announcement came from the official source of the Ministry, and the press soon reported the news while outraged comments raised among citizens. However, the statement was not real: Governmental Security Systems were hacked and the intruder managed in using official credits to spread out a fake press release... </p><p>What’s interesting in this case is that the operation seems to have been planned to work on a larger scale, over a long period of time in order to damage the public image of Taiwanese government. <br /></p><p>What is even more interesting, is that the cyber forensic team that investigated the incident traced back to China the origin of the attack...</p><p>The intrusion was set up with a great skill degree which is comparable to a military action: it was fast and aimed to provoke the biggest amount of damages. Indeed, when the security team monitoring the network realized what had happened it was to late: newspapers had already written about that, shadowing government’s reputation.</p><p>Luckily for Taiwanese Defence Ministry, the operation had some leaks: the press release wasn’t written properly and some media recipients didn’t run the story. But most did …</p><p>The cyber war between China and Taiwan have been ongoing for years : stealing of data and media manipulation were drawn out by both the countries which engaged independent hackers to plan, manage and carry out digital attacks against their foes.
