This paper discusses social engineering attacks using psychological tools to legally gain information about a company that would result in unauthorized access or unauthorized use to an information system, network or data. Recognizing social engineering traps are necessary in defeating the social engineer or people hacker. Techniques are presented that will improve employees abilities to recognize when someone is trying to gain information from them. Lastly, the paper presents measures to promote the awareness of social engineering and methods to employ to secure against human attacks.
