No more time can be wasted in the war to cyber terrorism: this is the general feeling emerging from the G8 Interior, Justice Ministers, and Attorney Generals’ Meeting that took place in Moscow on June 15-16.
The meeting highlighted the urgency of a coordinated effort against international terrorism and all those aspects of cyber crime such as frauds, network security violation and identity theft.
The Internet is a wide and borderless ground, a no man’s land where anybody can meet and exchange information, we all know this, and cyberterrorists know this as well.
According to the Russian Interior Minister, “terrorists increasingly use the cyber space as an information centre that offers detailed instructions on secrecy techniques, on weapons and explosivesmanufacture and use” and developed countries should use all their means to fight against recruitment and training of new activists in terrorist groups...
The point is that it is important both to impede these groups to form and to work hard in order to detect vulnerable points within each country’s Security System to prevent the attacks. The general awareness about the asymmetric connotation of the war to terrorism, draw to a series of proposals that underline the necessity to act together: it was suggested to develop a common cyberdefence system or to create an international database, and above all to be effective in the spreading out of information.
That’s why a coordinated action would be desirable as a countermeasure against terrorism and its manifestations. As a result it is definitely vital to perform an effective information network between the institutions joining this program: as the Vice-President of the European Commission, Franco Frattini pointed out, European and G8 countries have to start a common action to monitor not only the web and vulnerable objectives but also Financial Flaws, to stop those money that could be used to finance terrorist actions.
They are up to discuss which measures could be adopted but they all agree on the point that it’s time to move.
From this viewpoint, Zone-H started to cover geopolitic and cyber warfare topics a long time ago. Together with our cyber attack archive we believe that, better than anybody else, Zone-h is able to get (and to present to the general public) a precise picture of the vulnerable status of the Internet
