We propose a newmechanism, private broadcast encryption, to protect the privacy of usersof encrypted file systems and content delivery systems. We construct aprivate broadcast scheme, with a strong privacy guarantee against anactive attacker, that achieves ciphertext length, encryption time, anddecryption time comparable with the non-private schemes currently usedin encrypted file systems.
